Samsung Galaxy S8 is beautiful but LG G6 is equally good: Here is Why?

2017 has already seen the launch of two major flagships in India up till now. The Galaxy S8 from Samsung and the G6 from LG is now available for purchase via both online and offline channels. But, most us including a lot of critiques are straightaway landing on the verdict that Galaxy S8 is a better smartphone. It's true, it has a better processor, a more appealing design and maybe a slightly better camera to go as well. However, does it make for a better usability experience? which, in our opinion, is the number one aspect to look for while buying a smartphone. LG G6 is priced at Rs 51,990 while the Galaxy S8 is priced at Rs 57,900 so there is not a lot to debate on the price to value ratio but is LG G6 inferior to the Galaxy S8? Well! No, if you ask me and here is why.

Note that you can avail Rs 5000 cashback you buy the G6 via HDFC or SBI cards on Amazon India.

Flat Screen
I am expecting some raised eyebrows on this one. Samsung Galaxy S8 sports a beautiful curved 5.8-inch Super AMOLED display with an aspect ratio of 18.5:9 and undoubtedly it does make it more appealing to the eyes. However, how much does it make for the usability? First of all, a curved screen is always more delicate and prone to accidental touches than a flat screen and we are not even talking about the difficulties of finding the right screen protectors. Further, the curved screen on the Galaxy S8 makes the content distort on the edges which might not be a big deal for a lot of you but you have to admit it’s there. LG G6, on the other hand, comes with a 5.7-inch Quad HD IPS LCD display which has no curves going around and delivers more of a conventional viewing experience.

Quad DAC
I know a lot of us don’t care about this but audio is still one of the most consumed media on smartphones. Most of the smartphones including the Galaxy S8 comes with a regular DAC (Digital to Analogue converter) for the audio. However, for some Asian markets in India and South Korea, LG has decided to give a Hi-Fi Quad DAC in the LG G6 which will surely make a difference even when you plug in your normal earphones. Most of the earphones rely a lot on smartphones for the output and this is where LG G6 will definitely deliver some impressive audio experience.

Fingerprint Scanner
Probably the most criticised feature of the Galaxy S8 is the fingerprint scanner. yes, Samsung Galaxy S8 does have a fingerprint scanner but its placement is not the best. Although the company boasted its facial recognition and Iris scanner to cover it up, most of us will still use a fingerprint scanner to unlock the device. On the other hand, LG G6 didn’t try to go out of the way and perfectly placed the fingerprint scanner at the back just below the camera module.

Snapdragon 835 vs Snapdragon 821
Alright, so this is probably where most of the debates end up. Samsung Galaxy S8 comes with the latest 2.35 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 platform while the LG G6 sports last year’s 2.35GHz Snapdragon 821 processor. Yes, the processor on the Galaxy S8 is more future proof but Snapdragon 821 is still a solid SoC. On top of it, you will not notice any real difference in the usability as the G6 is as fast as Galaxy S8.

Battery Life
More battery coupled with a less battery hungry processor makes up for a better overall battery life. LG G6 comes with a 3300 mAh battery while the Galaxy S8 comes with a 3000 mAh battery. While the display on the Galaxy S8 is a Super AMOLED panel, we would still bet our money on LG G6’s battery. Both of the batteries are non-removable though.

More Sturdy
Although Samsung Galaxy S8 is more beautiful of the two, it is also more delicate when it comes to drops and rough usage. The Galaxy S8 feels premium, no doubt, but that glass rolling over the edges with a glass at the back, you does need a feel to put on a case the moment you hold the device for the first time. LG G6, on the other hand, is also made out of glass but a more conservative design helps the G6 feel more sturdy in hands.
